Sally M. Snell is a writer, photographer, and organizer of large, hairy, projects. Her work has required that she drink beer at the highest brewery in Europe, and do the chicken dance in Nebraska. "There are always sacrifices to produce good copy," said Snell.
She favors black and white infrared photography, especially moody grab-shots. She has recently migrated to digital infrared, noting the comparative ease of navigating customs and security at airports around the world, over using traditional infrared film.
As for the "large, hairy, projects," Snell says they don't fit a particular category. "I have organized 100 years of research materials for a company history, and successfully marketed a series non-fiction books in an otherwise stale economy. I don't see a pattern. Do you?"
A rumor has it she has been dabbling in video production, as well. "Just small things," she assures, such as preparing video for online applications.
And why is her "Do Not Disturb" sign out every day between 8 and 12? She won't say, but we are pretty sure we overheard a few Mayan terms while we had our ears pressed to her door.

Background
BA in Sociology from Washburn University. Studied under Jonis Agee, at the Iowa Writers Festival; and Jess Lee Kercheval and Sharon Oard Warner at the Nebraska Summer Writers’ Conference.
Freelance since 1994.

Memberships:
National Writers Union (NWU)

Hobbies:
Bobbin lace and knitting. Sally endured squirrel droppings and nosy neighbors to make a "bobbin lace" banner for her office wall. Normal people would have made it about an inch wide using cotton thread, pins, and a sturdy cookie-style pillow. Sally used sisal twine and climbing rope, staking in out on the front yard with landscape nails. The finished size is 5' wide and 9' long. It took about a week to complete. She celebrated her knit-iversary by finishing the "knots and bark" sweater from Inspired Cable Knits by Fiona Ellis.

Current favorite hotel room:
Presidential Suite of the Hotel Pere Marquette in Peoria, Illinois. This "hotel room" was larger than my house, boasting a living room, dining room, bedroom (complete with fireplace), kitchen and two bathrooms, all in early '80s decor. Along with political dignitaries, the hotel boasted that Andre the Giant had stayed there.

Personal Motto:
It is better to use a tool than to be one.
